Mwanamwenge Institute of Technology is a registered Zambian innovation and training institute headquartered in Lusaka, with operational presence in Kalumbila District. We run short, practical courses that give young people skills the industry actually needs, so they graduate with more than a certificate. Every course is paired with business development and personal branding, so our students can turn what they learn into sustainable income and enterprises that grow. The Institute was founded to bridge the gap between innovation, leadership development, and ecosystem building in Zambia’s industrial and miingsectors. We are also committed to empowering citizen-owned enterprises through training, systems design, and strategic partnerships.Mwanamwenge Institute is dedicated to transforming the continent from a passive consumer of imported technologies into a global producer of cutting-edge solutions. Founded in Zambia, our mission is to equip underserved communities especially young people and women with the skills, tools, and opportunities to thrive in the digital economy.high-impact education,
First: Technology education and talent development. The Institute aims to equip young people with knowledge of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, while developing their technical capacity to build, adapt and improve these technologies. The objective is to move beyond digital literacy alone towards a generation of African creators, engineers and innovators.
Second: Research, development and industrialisation. The Institute intends to establish a robust research and development function that identifies real-world problems and develops technology-driven solutions. Over time, this work would extend towards product development, commercialisation and industrialisation—turning research and innovation into practical applications, productive enterprises and economic value.
Third: Technology education and talent development
Turn research outputs and student innovations into viable businesses. support product validation, intellectual property, business models, startup formation, market access and partnerships with investors.
Why it matters: An invention has limited economic impact if it never reaches users or the market.
Fourth. Technology Transfer and Industrial Partnerships
Build relationships with American, Chinese and other international universities, technology companies, manufacturers and research institutions. Explore joint research, technical exchanges, licensing, local adaptation and manufacturing partnerships.
Why it matters: Zambia can learn from global technological capabilities while developing its own technical expertise and productive capacity.
Fifth. Applied Technology for National Development
Direct innovation towards real Zambian challenges in agriculture, mining, energy, healthcare, education and public services. Projects should begin with clearly identified needs and be tested against practical outcomes.
Why it matters: The Institute becomes a problem-solving institution, not merely a training centre or laboratory.
Sixth: Digital Inclusion and Community Technology Access
Extend learning and innovation opportunities to young people, women and underserved communities through accessible training, digital learning hubs, mentorship and pathways into employment or entrepreneurship.
Why it matters: Technological progress should expand economic opportunity rather than deepen the digital divide.
These pillars also complement Zambia's stated AI priorities, which include human-capital development, infrastructure and data ecosystems, research and innovation, sectoral adoption, and international collaboration.
Seventh: AI Infrastructure, Data and Responsible Technology.
access to computing resources, datasets, cloud infrastructure, testing environments, cybersecurity, responsible AI, privacy and the technical foundations needed to develop and deploy AI locally. Zambia's AI Strategy identifies infrastructure, data ecosystems and responsible governance as important enablers
Our Mission is to train our students so that that they graduate with more than just a certification but practical skills that can be turned into sustainable income we also design and deliver innovative solutions that empower Zambian-owned companies, strengthen supply chains, and drive inclusive economic transformation.
Our vision is bold: to see Africa emerge as a leader in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, with its own homegrown technologies, competitive manufacturing industries, and thriving innovation ecosystems. By marrying technical expertise with social impact, Mwanamwenge Institute seeks to inspire a generation of problem-solvers who will address local and continental challenges while competing on the world stage.
